Some comments from students

I get great benefit from Kashanté’s yoga classes. They help me to keep mild asthma and rather advanced osteoarthritis under control most of the time without drugs. In addition, the sessions are very enjoyable. Kamini is an excellent teacher. (2007)

I have been attending Kamini’s classes for 5 years (2009)
I particularly appreciate her attention to each student’s abilities. By following her suggestions I am able to maintain my flexibility and thoroughly enjoy the classes even though I am in my 80th year. (Bob is still attending my classes)
Joanna (after her first yoga lesson)
I found that it was interesting to learn about my breathing and that it can affect my well being by not breathing the correct way. I noticed that after practising the way I should breathe, that although I instinctively breathe the correct way when I lie down, I don’t always do it when standing up! I suppose this is probably because I tend to be relaxed when lying down – I need to work on relaxing standing up!
(after second lessong)
It was interesting to learn about how different breathing techniques can affect your health. I had never really noticed before that you can have control of how much or little you use your lungs – i.e. filling with O2 and emptying of CO2.

I first thought yoga would be a way of helping me tone up. I didn’t realize until we began that I really need/ed to relax and have some time to myself. I left our first lesson feeling fresher and awake.

This is just a short note to tell you how I feel about my yoga class with Kamini. It is just wonderful. I have been doing yoga for 7½ years and just love it. I have just only done two terms with Kamini and have felt the benefits of her class. She is just a great teacher and her class is so enjoyable. I have a hip problem and the yoga is helping to keep it mobile. I do have to get a hip replacement eventually but in the meantime I continue with the yoga class. (2009) (still attends)
Allen (after first lesson) (2013)
“Wow!” (He literally couldn’t speak, was so impressed with the results of his first (45 min.) yoga class.)

Kamini, I enjoy yoga and your teaching methods, as I come away feeling calm, refreshed and more alert. It also helps me to remain active and gives me a sense of achievement. I have become more aware of my posture and breathing, when I remember. It also has a social aspect to it, by being with other people who are friendly, with laughs, feelings of wellbeing, and being able to forget what’s going on outside, keeping the mind focussed on what I am doing. I do try each morning to do my wakening exercises, although some days I do miss out. Thank you for your friendly face each Thursday morning. (2009) (still attends)

Yoga is for all ages. It combines stretching, breathing and aids in improving concentration. I like it and have for the last six years been involved in the practice of it. To do yoga in a group brings like minded people together and many friendships are made. Kamini has been in practice of it for many years, and as a result has a wide knowledge of it. No matter what medical difficulties you may have Kamini can adapt the practices for you.

For the past thirteen years I have had the privilege of learning Yoga through Kamini, at the local Community Centre. The only time I did not attend the c lass was when I had my three children. After each child I returned to the class and put my children in the crèche at the centre. Over the years I have learned so many things to do with Yoga including breathing techniques and the different ways we can help our bodies. It also teaches us to meditate and feel a lot less stressed in our busy lifestyles. Each week Kamini teaches us something new; this helps make each session very interesting. Kamini is very aware of each person’s strengths and weaknesses, she does not push us to do things we do not want to do, or things that make us uncomfortable. We all have our own levels and we feel comfortable with each person in the class. The group is a wonderful lot of people and we really appreciate Kamini’s skills that she passes on to us. Most of us are regulars and we all look forward to Thursday morning Yoga sessions. (2009) (Andrea is still attending my classes)

Through Kashanté’s wonderful teachings I see my daughter not only having fun, but creatively expressing herself with confidence and ease in a natural way. In a safe and comfortable environment in a small and intimate group setting Tara is understanding, through the skill of belly dancing and yoga, how she can exercise her body now and for all her life. Something our girls needn’t miss out on with our love and care. I see Kashanté’s training as a healthy approach to teaching girls the care of their bodies in a fun and creative way.

I look forward to yoga classes with. Over the past 25 years I have had a few yoga teachers, sometimes due to location or work commitments. When I am able to go to Kamini’s classes they are the ones I choose. It is my belief that if a yoga teacher can not see what I am doing in a position it is a danger. Kamini has taken her time to accommodate all members of her class, considering age, capability, etc. Her teaching and guidance are from her knowledge, practice and heart; never her ego and I am proud to have her as my teacher alongside me. I recommend her to any other person that enquires about my practices.
My general practitioner acknowledged that my yoga practice had maintained my spine, therefore giving protection after a 6 ft fall, landing on my feet, left me in bed for the following two weeks. He had first thought I had compacted by spine as my body had gone into shock. X-rays showed this was not the case (thankfully). On attending a physio weekly for a while again acknowledgement was given to my flexibility and recovery time. I was able to follow their instructions due to recognizing the internal areas that needed to be used for recovery. The pain was excruciating, the recovery six months. I thank the yoga practice for my understanding and use of my body and mind.
